Hypnosis files and partial hearing....

Postby dumpertaker » July 15th, 2007, 5:21 pm

Hi there,

I new to this kind of thing and wondered if anyone could help me.
The last time I was hynotized was about 10 years ago to unlock repressed memories and that went fine, but since then I have developed partial deafness in my left ear.

Is this going to effect using these files? Will it stop them working for me?

I'm sorry if this seems a stupid question, and I hope I have asked in the right place....I'm just hoping that I can use these ok as some of these files are of quite a lot of interest to me.

Thanks in advance to any people here who can help me.

Are you right or left handed?

Kinda both...I can write and do stuff with both hands but I'm predominantly right handed.

Would this effect it also?

As long as you can hear what is being said, it doesn't matter if you only hear it with one ear.

You might miss some of the finer binaural effects, that some of the files have, but you should be able to do just fine anyway. Just adjust the volume so that you can easily hear what is being said, but not too loud.

One more question (I hope).

Will subliminal messagine still work? Again sorry if this seems like a stupid question, just want to make sure things work if that makes sense.

It is thought by some that one hemisphere of the brain is dominant and one is non-dominant and one ear is connected to each. Without going into all the details the theory goes on to explain how each hemisphere responds differently to language, visualizations and melodys among other things. And that effective hypnosis needs to access the non-dominant hemisphere.

While I agree with Cardigan that you still should be able to be hypnotized by listening to files it may be that various things work differently for you. Without experimenting to see exactly how it would work differently it would be impossible to say. There are many variables such as the amount of hearing in your left ear and how much your brain has adapted to the less than perfect hearing.

If you are interested in a good discussion of dominant vs non-dominant hemispheres of the brain in connection with hypnosis there is a chapter on it in the book "Patterns of the Hypnotic Techniques of Milton H. Erickson" by Richard Bandler and John Grinder. Of course I am sure there are many other sourses of information about it and some of it should be more up to date as that book was published in the 70's.

The best way to find out what works for you is the same as it is for everyone. Try it yourself and find out.
