the most important thing is to be comfortable so you can relax

a chair is ok but generally the human body relaxes more in a reclined or semi reclined position

relaxed

I lay on my bed. Just do what's most comfortable for you.

Anything that you could do while normally awake anyway. The attraction of hypnosis is precisely that it allows you to do more things.

True, but most people (myself included) can't reach trance with only recordings or self-hypnosis unless in a very relaxed and still state. Perhaps it's lack of know-how, perhaps something else, but being active during trance is beyond most of us.
