subliminal squeak and hiss

Just a newbie question here. In some subliminal files I can here squeaks and hisses, and some files I don't here anything at all. Should I have the volume up so I can here the squeaks and hisses or not?

There are many different ways of encoding subliminal files. Some are more prone to quiet artifacts than others. Generally, though if you can hear these artifacts, you are playing too loudly. A good starting point is to set your playback device at a level that is comfortable for listening to regular background music (not full blast rock). At that point, you shouldn't really be able to hear much from any subliminal recording.
