The Effectiveness of Subliminals

It has often been said that the idea of subliminal messages is a crock, something that users of this site are quick to refute. My question is, do they work? When you listen to a sublminal on WMM, you know what it wants to make you do, maybe there is a placebo effect of sorts? I think it would be interesting if someone brave, who had listened to the IMAccept file, were to be sent a random subliminal trigger file by me and listen to it during computer use sessions (this would also have to be someone who didn't listen to any of the ordinary trigger files with a subliminal version. I could then send them the trigger through AIM and see if they responded, just an interesting little experiment.
