One Ring To Rule Them All

Prologue

The frantic wail of police sirens pierced the cold night as a lone man ran in flight. He ran out across the London Bridge over the River Thames, knowing that escape was impossible. As he neared the center of the bridge, the police lights closed in on both sides. The water offered no escape, this he knew. The police would be able to catch him anyway. The man reached into his right hand pocket and pulled out a simple gold ring. Just as the police were closing in, he threw the ring out as far as he possibly could. As the ring spun through the cold night air, the light of the moon shone upon the ring, illuminating a strange engraving.

One ring to rule them all,
One ring to find them.
One ring to bring them all,
And in the bedroom bind them.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Several months later the ring is discovered by a single 20 year old male whose life is about to change quite drastically.

More to come, any likes and/or suggestions?

too much like lord of the rings you could get sued if the company ever found out.

Why?

Just wondering..... Why/how would they sue for a free online porn story written by an anonymous person? Also, I dislike long complex stories in general, this story may sound like a big thing, but will be fairly short over all with a lot of emphasis on the good stuff since that is my favorite part anyway. I hate those long long long looooong chapter after chapter stories when I am trying to have some fun. ;-)

Well, you can get sued for fanfiction if the author sends a cease and desist, but you can't get sued for Lord of the Rings fanfiction because Tolkien has been dead for a very long time.

Even if you don't make money off of it, if you write fanfiction based on the works of Anne Rice, P. N. Elrod, Archie Comics, Dennis L. McKiernan, Irene Radford, J. R. Ward, Laurell K. Hamilton, Nora Roberts, Raymond Feist, Robin Hobb, Robin McKinley, or Terry Goodkind then you can get sued as those authors have specifically asked that fanfiction not be written of their works and there is precedent of them winning.

Also, pornographic works based on the works of J. K. Rowling have been sent cease and desist orders.

Of course even though it's possible and has happened, it is unlikely to happen. Either way, it doesn't make sense to post your LOTR fanfiction in File Ideas, Scripts, and Challenges.

Also, the odds of it- out of All the Fan Fic on the internet, being discovered by somebody who'd WANT to sue over it, is insatiably small lol

Yes, you can get sued without making money.

However, this is sufficiently different that making the case for this being a derivative work would be very difficult.
