what other sensory details are evocative of the gym experience, ie things you can mention in a session or file to really anchor the mindset to the gym experience in trance? the feel of the grip of the weights, the noise, and the smell of the soap in the shower are some of the first things that come to mind

There's the smell of guys sweating as they lift, the feel of your wet with perspiration tee, the clang of the weights as they hit each other and/or the floor, the feel of you wiping someone's sweat off a machine or weight bench you're going to use, the grunts of guys lifting,, the reflection of yourself in the mirror as you lift, the sound of someone drinking at the water fountain ....

It's a nice thought but I think it would be distracting or too annoying. People usually zone out in the gym or get into the zone to ignore the sounds they hear around them.

It might be distracting in the background, but if the 'tist mentions some of these tidbits in the file, it certainly grounds the person: where they are (the gym) and why they're there (to work out).

typically one of the things you mention in the induction is that the sounds you hear will help you go deeper..
it is a way to make a negative a positive..
I think back ground would end up being just that back ground..
drowning out the annoying aprt of the bin aural is not a bad idea...
but clanging of weights is probably not where you want to go...

I agree ..people at the gym zone out ...
