Question about Subliminals

Whats the most effective way to listen to them? In a trance or asleep? I'm kinda new, and have had limited amount of success. I'm not taking to the commands very well, I feel that i get in a good trance but for some reason i don't do well during the main part of the files. So I'm trying to learn more about subliminals. Any advice would be great appreciated, thanks!
