New to Hypnosis, have questions.

Hello everyone :) Please bear with me!

I'm really new to all this, been lurking for about 4-5 days now, listening to several files at night with my iPod before I crash for the night.

I had been listening to Blinks Basic Induction, then after reading some comments on the board I switched to Cardigan's Deep Trance.

I didn't think I was getting anywhere until tonight when I kept mentally picturing myself falling deeper and deeper into some water when a strange sensation came all over my body which I figured must be this "deep trance" everyone talks about.

But instead of feeling relaxed my heart started racing a million miles a minute and I was having a hard time breathing. I didn't stop tho, cuz I figured it'd wear off (which it only did after the file ended and I started moving around)

I headed back to the forum and read that this can be due to subconscious fears about being hypnotized. So I listened to the file several more times, and I was able to reach that feeling w/o my heart racing! yay for me.

But this is my main question - How do I know I'm in a trance? Can I know? Should I be aware at the time? My body feels heavy and kinda tingly, but my mind is still sharp, is this right?

Or should I just keep listening to the file over and over again til I "black out" like some others have posted on the board?

At one point after it says "Your arms are tired, you can't move them, just try." Should I really try? It feels like I could probably move them if I want to, but I don't try because I'm trying to relax more and more.

And lastly, whenever I get really relaxed and start making headway, I uh.. get a raging stiffy  I pretty much have to masturbate and start the file over again b/c it gets too distracting. Any advice on that? Or just keep on doin what I'm doin?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks. Really looking forward to exploring the world of hypnosis now that I'm starting to get somewhere.

Welcome to WarpMyMind, Kricket. Your first posting here in the forum - and it's exceptional. It stands out as exceptional because:

    - you've described what's been going on with your hypnosis development.
    - you reveal that you've been using existing forum postings to learn.
    - you ask questions that show genuine interest.
This response shares my experiences with the hope it'll encourage you.

The description you wrote "instead of feeling relaxed, my heart started racing a million miles a minute" made me smile. It made me smile because it still happens to me. Yes, there are still times when a familiar file will surprise me in a new way. I've learned to laugh at myself and make a resolution that I'll be ready to welcome the feeling next time.

Your note asks: "How do I know I'm in a trance? Can I know? Should I be aware at the time? My body feels heavy and kinda tingly, but my mind is still sharp, is this right?". It's not possible for me to tell you what you should or will experience. But I'm glad to tell what I experience.

    - Yes, I know when I'm in trance.
    - Yes, I remain aware.
    - Internally, I feel mentally sharp while in trance. Even though there is a perception of sharpness, it isn't accurate. Just last week, during a session with a hypnotist, I was startled out of trance by something ordinary & trivial. If you had seen me as I nearly fell out of my chair, you would've laughed. Both the hypnotist and I learned from the experience. I was aware, but it was the awareness of a subconscious mind as it samples the environment for threats.
You asked about uh.. getting a raging stiffy. I believe that's an excellent indicator. Yep, it happens to me, too. I say it's a good indicator because:
    - I believe (opinion) that the desires embedded in my subconscious mind are the fuel that make my trances powerful.
    - In trance, I have more freedom from the inhibition of a conscious mind that's ethical.
    - This combination of lowered inhibition and simulatenous focus on my desires sometimes gives the result of a stiffy.
I've learned to laugh at myself and make a resolution that I'll be ready to welcome the feeling and stay in trance next time.

Kricket, after some time passes, come on back to this posting and let everyone know how you're progressing, okay?

Again, welcome to WMM.

Thanks for your reply, it was very encouraging.

I decided to step back and see how well I'm going into a trance (or if at all) so I switched to listening to Cardigan's Itchy Foot.

Each time after it ends I do get a very slight "feeling" in my right foot, but nowhere near an itch, and it goes away by itself in 30 min to an hour.

I think I just need to keep practicing and trying to get into a deeper trance, I'll get there in time.
