New to the game...

So as the topic title suggests I'm new to hypnosis. Having a bit of difficulty going into a trance, and from what I've read so far I think it's because I have an analytical mind...? (This strikes me as odd, because I always considered myself to be artsy, and kinda random/passionate or even at times nonsensical...That and I'm a self professed mathtard).
I've also read that this may be something I need to practice, but I imagine there are different ways to practice. Just want to make sure I'm doing it right for my learning style, I guess.
Here's my question(s);
What file/files will be good for me to practice before I get to the fun stuff? Aside from listening to files are there other things I can do to make my mind a little more willing to cooperate?
Ohter info...
I have super vivid dreams (sometimes lucid...sometimes not). I mention this because when I tried a file of Cardigan's I had a real hard time with visualizing a garden and a door. I could imagine them, but they kept changing around and there was little to no detail - At times I noticed that the landscape was even devoid of color in places. And, of course, I was constantly aware of the fact that I was imagining them and not actually standing there experiencing them.
Any help?
It would be greatly appreciated.
