Hi, I have come to this discussion late, but I have some questions. You say that your doctor has "prescribed" hypnosis treatments for you because you have "gay men syndrome." I assume that when you say doctor, you are talking about your general, all-purpose doctor. Family doctor. General practitioner. Internist. Maybe I'm wrong on this point; but if you were talking about a specialist, you would probably have referred to him by the speciality: my cardiologist, my oncologist, etc.
If your family doctor "prescribed" hypnosis treatments, how did he find out that you had "gay men syndrome"? I doubt that this came up in a routine physical examination. I doubt that a family doctor would tell you that you needed a certain type of specialized treatment without recommending a specialist. A general practicitioner who says that you need specialized attention and then leaves you at the mercy of the Internet is itching for a malpractice suit.
With the foregoing considerations in mind, did your doctor really say anything at all to you? Sorry to say so, but your post does not have the ring of accepted medical procedure about it. You may want to find yourself a new general practitioner, with some haste.
Also, if you look at a standard encyclopedia, you will find that most psychiatrists have tended not to use hypnosis since before 1940. I can't believe that a doctor of medicine would refer you to someone with credentials less substantial than his own.
A final thought. Your subject line tends to conflict with the contents of your post.
Let me be blunt. I think that (1) you've told us a tall tale and (2) you didn't have enough background knowledge to make the tale credible.
