It's more limiting than hypnosis in certain ways.
When your sleeping your mind can only understand present tense and past tense. Any suggestions worded in future tense will be ignored for the most part. When your asleep your mind is likely to favor short, simple, and positive suggestions instead of complex, long, or negative statements.
You can learn in your sleep, but it's not as effective as a true hypnotic trance. It's more likely that listening to files while you sleep can only reinforce suggestions, from files you listened to during the day.
You can't use sleep learning as a substitute for true hypnosis though.
