instead of a watch this topic option
have a daily digest function that summarises all the new topics in a particular forum each day, at or just after, midnight.

also allow a digest email for all the watched topics someone may have marked.

The forums will be updated to the latest version of phpbb when the site gets upgraded(late this year). If the function isn't there then we'll see what we can do.

phpbb ? is that instead of Joombla or whatever you said to me you were planning / thinking of ?

phpbb is what we already use, it's available under joomla so it will allow me to move what we have but what we have is 7 years old. Time to update.
