Unread messages.

Right now the counter in the lower left "You have X private messages" displays how many messages are in your inbox total. Not how many new ones there are. The inbox system seems to mark messages as "read" after you click on them to read them. Since the subject of the message is no longer bold after doing so. Only new messages are bold. Which means they're unread.

I know EMG is really busy with the file system right now, but it always bugged me that the message counter never had a distinction between the read and unread messages. I always have to delete messages after reading them so it goes back to zero. And I know other sites that use the same style of inbox have their message counters only say "You have X private messages" if the messages are unread. So it doesn't seem like it's too hard.
