its a simple scientific matter. Excluding surgical and medical treatments, no a person can not change their gender, no amount of mental gymnastics can change that

One can be convinced and encouraged to change their appearance

You cannot change the physical sex, but you can change the gender, possibly. It is also possible that it won't change your gender, but reveal in you something that was already there.
