It is possible. It is not as effective as other forms of online communication, as it is only "static", but basically it is the very same as an MP3 you are listening to, just that it is a text.
For some it is harder to reach a trance state with text tho, as you need to keep your eyes open, and focus on the reading. For many it is a lot easier to go into a trance when they can close their eyes, like when listening to MP3s or when using voicechats/phone.
But as it is you who is going into the trance, and the hypnotist is the one providing the "guidance" on how to do so, it is not really important how or with what media this guidance is given. I even met some, who claimed it is easier for them with text, as they can concentrate on reading. So it depends a lot on the person, and what they prefer. You just have to find the media (and hypnotist/style) that fits you best.
