Alright, I'm actually doing this wrong, because I listened to dldrip14 (hereafter #14) before I wrote this (about a month and a half ago). Thing is, I wasn't expecting to listen to it, it was kind of on a whim and I didn't think to record a 'control' entry. So, I will post how I felt before the file to the best of my ability, and then after which will be considerably easier.
BEFORE: I never really liked techno music much. Of course, I never really had an opportunity to listen to it, but I wouldn't even allow myself to listen to it. Any opportunnity that might have been granted to me, I either ignored or failed to pursue, which is really a failing on my part which I have attempted rectify in recent months. I must be honest, I never knew anything about rave culture or music to know what to expect of it, and it is especially causing me a problem now becuase I don't know what to say about what I simply did not know. Try it some time, it's actually pretty difficult. Having done research after the fact, I know things about rave culture now, and have also dispelled a few myths about it as well, but I literally knew nothing about it before I listened to #14 and then became curios about it. And my curiosity, much like a cat's, is insatiable, and must be satisfied.
AFTER: after I had listened to #14, I didn't notice any appreciable difference in myself. At first I thought 'well, it's just like any other file: it takes time and practice until the effects are noticed.' The next day, I did not listen to #14, or the next day, or even the day after that. In fact, several days passed by and I had not yet gone back to #14. I was on stumbleupon one day, and I came across a video in which this guy was doing liquid dance. For thise of you who don't know (like myself at that time) liquid is a kind of gestural dance where you use your hands to create different kinds of effects. I can't explain it much better than that, so you would be better off looking it up and seeing it for yourself. Anyway, once I had seen (possibly in the comments?) that that was a kind a rave dance, I suddenly remember #14. The mind is like that. I had thought first that it was a complete failure, and I would delete it later, and then I got curious. So I looked up (out purest curiosity, remember) where to buy rave clothes. There are literally hundreds of online sellers for rave clothes. So I looked through a few, saw different styles and varieties (though I must admit that cyberraver was my favorite look) and then went about my business. I didn't know it then, but merely browsing through those couple of vendors was all it took to make me completely curious. I had seen in several places references to hardstlye, trance, and house, but never knew what they meant let alone what they were. Well, browsing through rave clothes I saw several shirts that had the word hardstyle printed on them, and I had to know. I looked it up, and discovered (through wikipedia ;)) that it was a genre of electronic music. As chance would have it, there was a link to a hardstyle compilation on the first page of my google search. I clicked on it, and listened to it, and I was absolutely, totally, and irrevocably hooked on it. I started to click on related videos to more hardstyle, which then led me to hard techno, trance, jumpstyle, dubstep, breakbeat, and a multitude of other aboslutely brilliant tracks. Since then, I can't get enough of it! The bass beating in your heart, pulsing throughout your entire body, the major chords and harmonic strains, it's enough to make me want to get up and dance, which I have started to learn how to do, since danceing to techno is not the same as dancing to anything else. Once I started listening to techno, my life changed, figuratively speaking. I can't be in a bad mood when listening to techno, even if I try. The only downside I have discovered, is that I want to go to a rave, like really a lot. Trouble is I don't know anyone in the rave scene and, as I have discovered, it is very difficult to get into a rave without knowing someone on the inside. It's difficult just to find out about them, forget about going to one, I haven't even found one yet! Other than that, I would say this file is absolutely worth listening to.
SUMMARY: To close, I would suggest caution before listening to #14. It is a great file, and will introduce you to a world of great music, but be sure that you want it first. It only took me one listen, granted it didn't take hold for two weeks, but I still only listened once. As always, listen to a file at YOUR risk, not someone else's. Other than that, #14 is a great file, I recommend listening to it. PLUR!
EDIT: Just looked over the entry, and I didn't realize it went on for so long! Sorry guys!
